Hrafna-Flóki

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Reykjavik's Saga Museum. One of my favorite exhibits detailed the exploits of Flóki Vilgerðarson, who was one of the first Viking explorers to visit Iceland. Legend has it that Flóki took three ravens with him on his voyage to provide navigational assistance. When he let them loose, one flew toward the Faroe Islands, one came back down on Flóki's ship, but the other flew westward, guiding Flóki to Iceland. After that, the annals referred to him as Hrafna-Flóki or Raven-Flóki.

Flóki was one of the great characters portrayed in the History Channel's series, Vikings.
